Summary of various ways to get here are provided below with the details available through


  • Albany, NY (ALB)

Albany International is the biggest US airport for the conference venue, Lake Placid at about 2.5 hours drive. Several car rental companies are available at the airport. See bus and rideshare information below.

  • Montreal, Canada (YUL)

Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Quebec, Canada is nearly 2 hour drive from Lake Placid with additional time at the the border crossing.

  • Plattsburgh, NY (PBG)

A small yet closest airport, at 1 hr drive from Lake Placid, has limited airline connections.

  • Burlington, VT (BTV)

A small airport with a few airline connections is at a little over 2 hrs drive.


Railway access via Amtrak is available from New York, Albany and Montreal, with tickets that include a ~50 minutes shuttle ride to Lake Placid direct from the Westport Station.

  • Daily train leaves from Penn Station in New York City at 8:15am for a 6 hour ride to the Westport Station near Lake Placid.


Adirondack Trailways offers service to Lake Placid from New York City, Albany and various other locations. Tickets are available at the for purchase onlineDaily service between Albany airport and Lake Placid currently for $36 one way fare. Current daily schedule:

  • Albany to Lake Placid: 1:55PM – 5:45PM
  • Lake Placid to Albany: 11:15AM – 3:15PM


Transportation to Lake Placid is limited. Therefore, we are suggesting the following options to the attendees for rideshare:

  • Rental Car
  • Ground Force 1 Transportation

We have created WACV16 Rideshare Google document to connect those interested in sharing the cost and the ride. Those interested should post your arrival and departure schedule, airline carrier, airport, contact information and mark your transportation preference. This will provide the interested attendees an opportunity to connect with each other via email.

Ground Force 1 (Tel: +1-518-563-4444 or Email: offers vehicles of various sizes with driver between Lake Placid and various cities in the area, including Montreal, Plattsburgh, Lake George, Vermont, Albany, New York City. If interested, the passengers will have to coordinate among themselves to form a group based on the schedules and then contact Ground Force 1. Passengers will be responsible for paying Ground Force 1 directly through one credit card, including a deposit in advance.

One-way fares (including 20% tip, 5% fuel charge and tax) between Lake Placid and Albany Airport are as follows:

  • Sedan — up to 2 passenger: $333, wait time $67
  • SUV — up to 5 passenger: $399, wait time $67
  • Van — up to 11 passenger: $532, wait time $113
  • Bus — up to 32 passengers: $998, wait time $113

Wait time charges will incur if a passenger is more than 30 minutes late. We suggest using WACV16 Rideshare Google sheet to find other passengers you could share a ride with. Please contact Ground Force 1 to get quotes for other cities.
